Casual, go-anywhere styles… strappy, dressy sandals: I love them all! Because these summer staples get more wear than any other shoe at this time of year, we make sure that all of our sandals are “FootSmart”. We evaluate thousands of styles to select only great-looking sandals that deliver exceptional foot comfort. You can be sure that each one has one or more of the following features: anatomical footbeds, flexible uppers with adjustability, orthotic-friendly footbeds, superior shock absorption, superior arch-support and leg toning / strengthening benefits. Look for these foot-pleasing features from favorite brands like Easy Spirit, Merrell, SoftSpots, Naturalizer, Clarks and many more.

With the return of warm weather, my thoughts naturally turn to thong sandals. They are a consistent favorite for many, and I am frequently asked if there are notable differences between the types or if there are certain styles that I favor. The simple answer is yes; however, each style has special features that set them apart. The Moszkito Archy features tooled leather straps and extra arch support for those who need it. I also like Island Hawaii Island Thong, a handmade sandal that is so comfy and lightweight you’ll forget you have it on! SoftSpots Camilla slips on easily with adjustable hook-and-loop side straps and cushiony Pillow Top™ memory foam footbeds. The New Aravon Robin combines feminine style with New Balance athletic engineering for additional comfort. The difference lies in the sculpted, deep heel cup and arch support, while supple leather straps have adjustable, hook-and-loop closures for a customized fit. One thing is certain: with so many comfortable styles to choose from, I am sure you will be happy with your final decision!

Q: Help! I suffer from plantar fasciitis, which causes lots of heel pain, and it’s very challenging to find shoes that don’t make the pain worse. Can you recommend any shoes that would be comfortable with this condition?
A: You’ve come to the right place! If there is one thing we understand at FootSmart, it’s problem feet. We specialize in comfortable shoes, but did you know that we also carry shoes that are designed specifically for plantar fasciitis and other painful foot conditions? In fact, I think you will like the choices that you find. From sporty sandals and thongs to cozy slippers, you’ll find styles that are perfect for Spring… and for your comfort level.
Whatever style you prefer, the most important thing to consider when shopping for shoes is arch and heel support. Customer favorite, podiatrist-designed Orthaheel Tide thong realigns your feet to their natural position, which improves posture while relieving heel and arch pain. We also have some other great new Orthaheel shoes and colors available. The Orthaheel Seaside slide has classic appeal with an adjustable hook-and-loop strap for a great fit, plus it features the same pain-relieving benefits as the other styles. Another great casual choice is the Moszkito Wing. Ideal for those with weak or fallen arches, this thong features arch-enhanced footbeds that help align ankles, knees and hips to a natural position. If you’re looking for problem-solving athletic shoes, you will appreciate the New Balance 927 walking shoe. Designed for flat arches, this full-grain leather shoe helps stabilize feet and control overpronation—controlling pain in the process. Regardless of your choice, you will find plenty of stylish pain relief at FootSmart!

There’s more to these shoes than meet the eye! In addition to being comfortable, they offer wellness benefits you don’t find in other shoes. Dr. Phillip Vasyli, a leading Australian podiatrist, designed Orthaheel shoes to provide relief from plantar fasciitis (heel and arch pain) while improving your body alignment, posture and walk. Improper foot alignment can cause wear and tear on your knees, hips and lower back. Special built-in orthotic footbeds have contoured arch support and deep heel cups to help reclaim your foot’s natural alignment, which enables feet, ankles and legs to function effectively.
Best-selling Orthaheel shoes are a favorite with FootSmart customers! You’ll find a variety of styles, from sneakers to slippers and sandals that are perfect during the upcoming warmer months. Our two best-selling shoes last year, the Tide and Wave thongs, both have mesh straps and are available in a variety of colors, while the Action Walker is an athletic shoe with a soft leather and mesh upper that conforms to your foot and a mesh liner to wick away moisture.

When I think cold weather, I think of ways to stay warm. I think faux fur and sheepskin and all that great warmth that keeps your feet cozy when it’s winter all around. Imagine having to go out when it’s freezing, but first being able to slip your feet into an inviting pair of sheepskin boots or faux fur-lined clogs. It makes your trek that much more bearable!
This year, faux fur is a big seasonal trend that will keep you comfy and fashionable. Look for it on some of the more stylish footwear—from classic boots, to the most comfortable slip-ons. You’ll find features such as plenty of cushioning and roomy footbeds and extra-wide widths, all the things that will make these boots and shoes the kind you can wear all day, no matter how cold it gets or how far you go!

Q: During the holidays, it seems like I’m always on my feet. If I’m not shopping, I’m decorating the house, or baking or running errands. Do you have any suggestions for comfortable, yet great-looking shoes that I can wear just about anywhere?
A: Don’t let your feet take the brunt of your holiday stress! Your holiday errands can feel pain-free in shoes that will keep your feet comfortable all day long. Consider Privo by Clarks Batten Slip-Ons, soft nubuck leather shoes with Soleassage™ footbeds that massage your tired feet with every single step. If you prefer the comfort of clogs, check out Merrell Encore Chill Stitch Clogs with sheepskin and wool fleece linings. They keep your feet toasty, while aligning your stride for maximum walking comfort. Another easy way to keep your feet from getting tired when you’re out and about is to slip on a pair of lightweight Easy Spirit Dragar Loafers. With classic styling, they look so great, you can wear them anywhere. Finally, take a look at the SoftSpots Tace Slip-Ons. This athletic-looking walking shoe feels like you’re wearing pillows on your feet! You might get tired when you’re running out for more gift wrap or hanging one more strand of lights, but your feet will feel comfortable for hours!

Q: I’m traveling this summer and want to wear sandals instead of sneakers. What are the most comfortable shoes for walking that won’t leave me with sore feet at the end of the day?
A: You wouldn’t believe how many people have this question. What you want to look for is anything that is going to give you good support underfoot and I’d have to say that Merrell is the No. 1 answer here. They have contoured footbeds and supportive constructions. You could wear Merrell shoes sightseeing on your vacation instead of sneakers and you won’t ache. They’re cute, they’re colorful and they feel great, even if you wear them all day long. If you’re the more active type or you’re going to be splashing around in creeks or the beach, sandals from Teva are perfect for you. And for dressier nights, take along Clarks Artisan Lucena Sandals. These have a nice wedge, a great fit and are really fashionable and super versatile. Go on vacation in style!
