Q: Spring is right around the corner, and I am really looking forward to sandal season! Can you give me some insight into what colors and styles I should look for in 2010?
A: Spring is definitely on the horizon and that means lots of colorful, comfortable sandals. There are many reasons that I love Spring, and tops on my list are cool, strappy sandals or heels in a variety of colors! This season, you’ll see a return of some of your favorites like huaraches and gladiators. Plus, you’ll want versatile wedges, thongs and flats to round out your options. What about colors? I think you’ll love the new neutrals! Shades of sand, beige, cream, latte and caramel provide a versatile foundation for your springtime wardrobe of brights and patterns. Of course, you’ll also find plenty of color with a return to brights (think citrus shades of orange and green).
Check out some of our Spring favorites. SoftSpots Traci refreshes the classic huarache with plush cushioning and style. Pillow Top™ memory foam cradles your feet while woven leather straps comfortably criss-cross your feet. If you love the lightweight comfort of Crocs™, try new Crocs Farrah sling-back wedges. In a departure from their usual style, they have an elastic heel strap for a better fit and a heel height of just over 3”! Dressy occasions call for a pair of Sofft Sabatina gladiator sandals. These croc-print leather shoes add a glamorous look with comfort to spare! In search of a comfy, go-anywhere slide? Easy Spirit Get Real blooms with comfort. The versatile leather upper has a soft, latex foam footbed and a 2” heel. You’re going to love Spring at FootSmart!

Q: Help settle an argument. My wife says men can’t wear sandals without looking ridiculous. I say there has to be something out there. Your thoughts?
A: You win, because there’s so much out there! There are all sorts of great-looking sandals and thongs that look great on men. If you’re shy about your feet like a lot of men, go the route of fishermen sandals like the Earth Coast Fisherman Sandals. They’re open and breathable, and give you that sandal feel, yet your feet and toes are still covered. For something a little more rugged, you can’t go wrong with the Crocs Yukon Slide Shoes, which still offers plenty of coverage, but are easy to slip on and off. Like all Crocs, they’re comfortable and lightweight, and even adjust so you can wear them three different ways. If you want something more casual, the FitFlop Dass Thong Sandals give you a workout with every step, meaning toned legs that you and your wife can appreciate. And, of course, there’s always a great selection of sandals from Birkenstock and Teva. It always comes down to comfort with men, so find some attractive, comfortable shoes and both you and your wife will be happy.

Q: I love the comfort of Crocs – the fleece-lined in winter and the clogs for gardening in summer – but I’m thinking I can’t get away with them when I go out. Please tell me I’m wrong.
A: I adore my Crocs and I certainly think you can wear your classic Crocs to the coffee shop for your morning caffeine or for your daily trips to the grocery store. After all, they are really, really comfortable. But if you don’t want that oversized Crocs look and you’re searching for something fashionable yet comfortable to actually wear to a party, Crocs has a new expanded line with lots of stylish options. They’ve revamped themselves with a sleeker silhouette including very fashionable Crocs Sassari Wedges, Crocs Havana Slingback Sandals and high-heeled Crocs Cabana Thong Sandals as well as slingbacks and Mary Janes. With all these dressy-yet-comfy alternatives, there’s a pair of Crocs for every occasion.
